COME RIDE WITH
US! SATURDAYS & TUESDAYS
Welcome to everyone and
hope you have had an active winter. For those of us that have been slacking this
winter, me included, we would like to encourage you to get back on the saddle!
Listed below is a schedule and description of our shop rides!! PLEASE keep in
mind when choosing the group to ride with that we have had our Sat. morning ride
all winter long so some folks have been riding all winter and are in a little
better riding shape than some of us! This is important when starting back after
taking it easy all winter! We try very hard not to drop anyone but you must be
able to do the distance and pace of the ride you select! All rides START and
FINISH at the SHOP! Please DO NOT PARK in FRONT of the store or in FRONT of the
woodwork shop! Plenty of parking available!
A RIDE: Starting Sat. March 8th 7:00am! Distance will be 60
– 80 miles! This ride usually breaks up into two groups with one group doing
19-21mph avg., with cruising pace of 23-24mph. with some pick-ups of 26plus mph!
The second group will do the same distance, 60-80 miles, but at a little easier
pace, 18-19 mph. avg., with cruising pace of 20-21mph., with a more steady pace!
As in all our rides the distance and pace will progress through out the year as
people get in better shape! There is usually a 40-45 mile turn off for people
having to get back early! This is an ADVANCED ride and will do it’s best to stay
together but you must be able to do the distance and pace before starting &
if you are constantly falling behind, this group will not wait for you!
B RIDE: Continuing on! Leaves 8:00am! Distance will start
out at 35 miles, 15.5-16.5-mph. avg. with a top cruising speed of 18mph. We will
add mileage and pace every week progressing up to 65-70 miles, 17-17.5 mph. avg.
with a top cruising speed of 19.5-mph. avg. by mid May. We will add the distance
and pace at a rate that will depend on who is showing up every week to ride! If
the same group is riding every week, we will add distance quicker. It is
important to start with us early, continue with us on a weekly basis and get
stronger as the summer goes on! We will not hold back 30 riders cause a few just
decide to get on their bikes for the first time in May! As everyone gets in
better shape the mileage will get longer and the speed will get a little faster
BUT we will NOT vary from the ride that is advertised! This is an INTERMEDIATE
ride not a beginners ride! We will do our best not to drop anyone but you must
be ready to do the distance and pace of the ride! On the B ride we will help you
learn how to ride safely in a group!! And you must remember the most important
rule!! Do not drop the ride leader and that would be me!!
C RIDE: Starting Sat. March 29th 9:00am! Distance will start
out at 20 miles, 12-14 mph. avg.! We will increase our distance and pace very
slowly as the cycling level of the group increases! As the riding season
continues into the summer the level of the group may vary greatly and we may
break into two groups with a C plus group going 40-45 miles with a 14-16-mph.
avg. We have two ride leaders for this ride so each level will have a ride
leader! This is a ride for BEGINNERS so please do not feel intimidated about
coming out and joining us! We will teach you the correct way to ride safely in a
group! Most our routs will be marked and very easy to follow! No riders will be
left behind! All C riders please park in back of the building and the group will
leave from there! The C ride may change there departing time to 8:00am when the
heat of summer is upon us! We will let everyone know this in advance!
TUES. NIGHT TRAINING RIDE
: Starting Tues. March
11th, 6:00pm! This ride is for everyone; the routes will be well marked, so you
can go at your own pace! The Tues. night ride is usually a very hard training
ride and the pace will get as fast as you want to go! The
group will roll out together but will break up into smaller groups going at different speeds, so
no matter what your pace is you can usually find someone to ride with! If you
get dropped, on this ride, no one will wait for you! Remember the routes are well
marked and easy to follow! Distance will start with our 20mi. loop and get longer
as the daylight allows! We will progress to our 30 & 36 mile loops!
As many of you that have been riding with our group rides
over the past four years have found out that you have become a stronger rider by
riding with a group! You tend to ride longer, faster, and safer and have a lot
more fun in a group than by yourself or with a riding partner! Here are some
things to consider if you are thinking about joining a group ride! It is true that the stronger riders in the group have to
sacrifice a little of thier riding prowess for the benefit of the group!
-
It is also true that the weaker riders in the group
have to work very hard to stay on the pack so they do not hold back the entire
group!
-
You tend to ride longer with a group as other riders
motivate you and on windy, cold or bad weather days (misery loves company) you
probley wouldn’t be out there by yourself!!
-
You tend to ride faster over all cause when you get
tired pulling there is always someone ready to come around you and pick up the
pace and being with other riders motivate you!!
-
The safety by numbers rule is so great when riding in
a group of 30 plus riders vs. riding by yourself or 1-2 riding partners, I
can’t even begin to explain this to you if you don’t already understand
it!
-
The enjoyment factor, camaraderie and riding with
other people who share your same interest in cycling are huge!! You get to
meet future riding partners!
-
Riding new and different routes that you wouldn’t do by yourself
or with a friend! We have some great routes! We have taken many a
season riders and had them completely lost! Just ask them!
The list of benefits of group riding can go on and on but
I hope the reasons above help you!!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR
SUPPORT!!
Look forward to seeing everyone on the rode!
